people interested in buying land....... 2 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
hi

we are a family based in south east wales looking for somewhere to build a home. we have recently come accross a few pieces of land for sale that we could never afford alone, but that would be very affordable if bought by a group of people each with £10,000-£30,000. some of the land for sale we have seen has had planning already in place. ie. 5 plots with planning for around 90,000.

so, i thought if there are people in a similar situation, we could all look out and alert, and maybe even buy, together, and then help each other self-build.....
so if you are, say hello here or email me: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

hope that makes sense.

Hi Beca
Well done for doing the research and finding some land. This is exactly what needs to be done. We just need to get the message out to other people so they are also aware of what you have found, and what you want to do.
We had an amazing Glastonbury with loads of people expressing interest to build their own home, with over 100 people signing up for more info. I am going to send a message out to all members of the forum and the extra people from Glastonbury, and I will raise your message as something for them to look at. I can see it is really frustrating when it seems no-one is listening.

It might be worth putting some information up around where you live, to see if there are any local people who would be up for coming on board with similar ideas, etc. Maybe a leaflet in some of the local cafes or pubs??

The large site near welshpool sounds interesting. Good luck with it.

Dear Beca and family,

I have only just joined Ecomotive having found out about it via "The Land" magazine and going on permaculture and low impact smallholding courses.

I have been looking for a house + garden to buy in various parts of South Wales for some months now and am struggling to find ssomething somewhere with soul - with the money I have.

But I have certainly got very fond of South Wales, its towns, cities and villages and ins and outs! You see a lot of life from a campervan.

I am a single person wanting a basic house to make as self-sufficient/off-grid and low-impact as practicable and enough land/garden to grow food, maybe rear animals, make things, store wood.... I would be interested in self-build with a group.

I am no horticultural or building expert - far from it.

I am 62, am living in my campervan, and have two daughters 30 and 35, one in Scotland and one in Australia.

Anyway - I hope you are having success with your ideas and aspirations - just thought I'd use this forum to let you know I exist! and that I was impressed with your messages.

Yours and best wishes,

John Russell

Hello there!

Your project sounds very interesting, my partner and I have also been looking for some land where we can self-build, start a communal garden and possibly launch some creative ventures within a sustainable community.

We were both inspired by several communities that we discovered on our travels last year in New Zealand. We have a little experience in rural living and farming from our time spent as 'WWOOFer's! see www.wwoof.org for more info.

At the moment we are in a similar position to yourselves, where we have access to some savings but not enough to afford to get the land and planning permission on our own. My partners parents may also be interested in coming on board if the location is right for them.

I am a professional videographer with a background in documentary, my partner is a artworker with experience in book publishing. We are both in our mid-twenties and currently picking up freelance work but in the long term we are planning to launch a startup business within a sustainable community of other creative enterprises and charitable organisations.

Would this be something that anyone here would be interested in getting involved with? Our project might not suit your vision but its still great that we've seen you and can share information related to getting land and planning permission. We are at an early stage of research and need all the help we can get... like where to start when looking for land for sale??
