I'm in Southall myself, and whilst its unlikely there is any cheap land anywhere nearby, there might just be the odd spot here or there to build a few homes.

Nice one Nanos

There is loads of support for redeveloping brownfield sites by local authorities....so this may be a viable option in terms of gaining planning permission.
We'll put up a middlesex heading.

I think if we're ever gonna be competitive in outcompeting development companies, we have to start buying land as a group, like the yard. I'm looking to buy by the fall if possible. I'm leaning towards Bristol, but I'm still open. It might be an idea to try and network with locals interested in self-build to pool the money together. I'm sure a section on this site will help. Let me know if you're trying to scrape together investment.

Lincolnshire has relatively cheap land especially given that south lincs is served by trains from Peterborough that take 47 mins to London and to reach many other major cities being so central. The other advantage is that planning permission seems quite easy to obtain. They are keen on brown fill sites which are generally quite large here. It's worth looking into.

Hey Selim

Definately finance needs to be thought through. I think maybe each group needs to work their own finance set up out, however I have set up a finance heading up under Knowledge so different models can be thought through.

It would be good to work through a model for Bristol, but again this depends on the site, and the price which needs to be paid for it. It also depends if we have to move fast, and then initital capital is vital. It would be good to set up a small investment company which is able to act as buffer, obtaining land before the big developers snap it up, giving time for self builders to collate their personal finance to get involved.

Hey Basil

Lincolnshire could be a good location for those who want to be near london. So I guess a site there could attract many people to be involved. Do want to have a heading set up for Lincolnshire?
